Colin Gee: Artist-in-Residence

Colin Gee returns to the Whitney in an unprecedented performance-based artist-in-residence project scheduled to unfold over the course of the next year. Whitney Live will present works in progress and “first peek” versions of several upcoming performances live onsite (dates to be announced soon) and digitally on the Whitney Live blog. A dedicated “Studio Page” will feature insights into Colin’s artistic process and elements from new and ongoing work in the form of narrative, musical, and video documentation.  Colin will discuss new developments as they arise, giving yet another behind the scenes look at the shaping of each project and creating a unique dialogue between artist and spectator.

More about Colin Gee here and after the jump…

Remember what the NYT had to say about Colin’s project Objective Suspense from last fall?

Colin Gee’s unannounced performances at the Whitney Museum’s current Alexander Calder exhibition are only a few minutes long. But what magic he pours into the delicate wire creations he sends whirling through the air in these minimalist circus acts: his hands, our imagination, endless possibilities. –New York Times, December 19, 2008

If you didn’t manage to catch it, here’s a short video by Paula Court and Pierce Jackson that really captures the essence.
